SKorea gov't forced to relocate 9 of 15 ministries

Parliament dealt a blow to South Korea's president Tuesday by upholding a plan to relocate a number of government offices to outside of the capital, voting down the president's proposal to scrap the move.

President Lee Myung-bak has said his liberal predecessor's plan to move more than half of 15 government ministries to the yet-to-be-built central city of Sejong, about 100 miles (160 kilometers) south of Seoul, would cause inefficiency and waste taxpayer money.

Tuesday's vote means Lee's government must start work to implement the original plan that would move nine of the 15 ministries and the prime minister's office to Sejong by 2014, according to a …
