SURF: Slater and Hardman on way to a Bells Beach spot

Former world surfing champions KELLY SLATER and DAMIEN HARDMAN set the pace in the
opening round of the Reef Trials at Bells Beach this morning.

SLATER and HARDMAN made the most of the clean one-metre waves and convincingly won
their respective first round heats,

This puts them on target to qualify for this year's annual Rip Curl Pro.

A world class 16-man field is contesting today's Reef Trials with two surfers progressing
through to the famous Easter surfing competition, which kicks off at Bells Beach, west
of Geelong, tomorrow.
